Is Helen Zille your hero?

Is Helen Zille your hero?

Today 790Tv launched its initiative, “Hout Bay needs Heroes!”. For some Helen Zille is a hero for standing by her decision to act on the Hangberg housing issue. In the photo above she stands up to herself, thanks Dave Duarte for the photo from the SA Blog awards.

We want heroes from our community who are making a difference. Send an email to news@790tv.co.za with information on your hero.

“Hout Bay needs Heroes!”

“Hout Bay needs Heroes!”

I don’t care what anyone says, but Hout Bay is a divided community!

What happened last week in Hangberg is just another chapter in a book that shows Hout Bay is not functioning correctly as a community. What we experience daily is what the rest of South Africa will only experience in a decade from now. By 2020,  eighty percent of the South African population will be urbanized. Hout Bay is a “giant experiment” on how we can get South Africa right in the future. We have every modern South African socio-economic class living on each others doorstep with polluted rivers, overcrowding, riots, violent crime,  an apathetic upper-class and silent racism being the result.

With this in mind, 790Tv would like to launch an intiative called, “Hout Bay needs Heroes!”

We are on the lookout for residents or organisations who are trying to make a difference in the community. If you know of someone and would like to nominate them, then please send an email to news@790tv.co.za with information on why that person or organisation is making a difference in Hout Bay.

790Tv will  feature that person on www.790tv.co.za, and hopefully start building community unity…

Eye lost after rubber bullet strikes

Eye lost after rubber bullet strikes

Report by Caryn Dolley from iol.co.za:

Hangberg resident Auriol Cloete made breakfast for her children, saw two of them off to school and felt proud as she sat in the house she had built for them. Hours later the mother of four was partially blind, cowering on her bed, bleeding from the left eye, and screaming at her children to keep lying flat on the floor as police and residents clashed outside.

Dog Theft

Haven’t tweeted this till now as I was waiting for the police to advise me. On Thursday night my dog Enid, (a black female Shar-Pei) was stolen. The police are convinced that it is a repeat offence and that last time was no accident. On their advice, I can’t give too much information. They are doing all they can but I need the power of all you kind people to help spread the word so I can find her. She needs daily medication and I’m worried about her health and safety.
