“Hout Bay needs Heroes!”

“Hout Bay needs Heroes!”

I don’t care what anyone says, but Hout Bay is a divided community!

What happened last week in Hangberg is just another chapter in a book that shows Hout Bay is not functioning correctly as a community. What we experience daily is what the rest of South Africa will only experience in a decade from now. By 2020,  eighty percent of the South African population will be urbanized. Hout Bay is a “giant experiment” on how we can get South Africa right in the future. We have every modern South African socio-economic class living on each others doorstep with polluted rivers, overcrowding, riots, violent crime,  an apathetic upper-class and silent racism being the result.

With this in mind, 790Tv would like to launch an intiative called, “Hout Bay needs Heroes!”

We are on the lookout for residents or organisations who are trying to make a difference in the community. If you know of someone and would like to nominate them, then please send an email to news@790tv.co.za with information on why that person or organisation is making a difference in Hout Bay.

790Tv will  feature that person on www.790tv.co.za, and hopefully start building community unity and give them a 790Tv t-shirt…

Are books piling up at home?

Are books piling up at home?

The Friends of Hout Bay Library will be holding a book sale on:

Saturday 4 December

We would appreciate any donations of books, CDs and DVDs prior to that date.

Please bring your donations along to the Library during opening hours.

If you need help, please call Richard on 072 299 7277 / randk@wam.co.za and he will make arrangements to collect from you.

This year, apart from assisting financially with the running of the Hout Bay Library, the Friends are committed to the purchase of many additional books for the main library, and to provide funds to assist in the reopening of The Imizamo Yethu Library.

Book sales are our greatest source of revenue. Please help.

18 October 2010

The Western Cape High Court today heard an application to have more than 50 shacks dismantled on the slopes of the Sentinel in Hout Bay.

The court has postponed the case until the 29th of November.

The court has urged the parties to spend the next few weeks mediating what has become an explosive issue.

SANParks has backed out of backing the evictions, Western Cape Premier Helen Zille stated that this move by SANParks was politically motivated.

Residents of Hout Bay came in their numbers today to protest outside the court, police and security guards tried to negotiate with the rowdy crowd.
