Here is the reason why the Bay Habour Market in Hout Bay has been closed

There is no disputing that Capetonians have kept the social networks buzzing since Hout Bay’s new gem, Bay Harbour Market, opened in July. However, visitors to the popular venue were disappointed of late to discover the doors firmly shut and the usual hustle and bustle nowhere in sight. This was as a result of critical upgrades that needed to be done on the premises in order to adhere to the strict fire regulations that are essential in doing business in the City of Cape Town. “This type of market environment is constantly changing and, quite frankly, we have been bowled over and, indeed, somewhat taken by surprise, by the numbers of visitors that we have had through our doors since we opened, not to mention the way our traders have themselves developed their stalls”, say Bay Harbour Market founders , Paul Rutzen and Anthony Stroebel . “This has required that we better evaluate the environment from a safety perspective, particularly as far as fire is concerned. We are sorry that we have had to close our doors for a few weeks at this time, but when it comes to public safety there really is no room for compromise. We have therefore been working day and night with the necessary professionals and City officials in order to ensure that our doors will open again as soon as possible. This break has also given us the opportunity to make further changes to the venue to improve the visitor experience even further.” Bay Harbour Market locals and Capetonians alike are urged to keep an eye on the Bay Harbour Market website, as well as Facebook and other social networks, to see when the doors will reopen again, which will hopefully be in the next week or two (firm date not available at time of going to press). And to those who have no yet visited this much talked about destination, your curiosity and anticipation will soon be satisfied, well in time for the festive season! Bay Harbour Market runs Friday 5pm – 9pm, Saturday 9.30am – 5pm and Sunday 9.30am – 4pm. For more information on Bay Harbour Market visit and follow on Facebook ( ) or Twitter (@bayharbourmkt )
